Azam: We’ll bowl first. Looking forward to the match. Confidence level is high.
The batting from Pakistan has wobbled in the last couple of games. They were rescued by Naseem Shah’s back-to-back sixes against Afghanistan, before coming a cropper against Sri Lanka.
They generally take a different approach to Sri Lanka and look to build a platform before unleashing in the last few overs. And Babar Azam’s form hasn’t helped with that. Will the captain turn it around today on what looks a good pitch?
“This pitch has never been used before. Looks really good pitch. For batting and for bowling. With the new ball, it might swing one or two overs tops. But this pitch is one of the best in this Asia Cup. These pitches have been the best in the world.” – the pitch report by Sanjay Manjrekar and Wasim Akram
5pm local: After two weeks of high-intensity cricket and some really cracking encounters, Asia Cup 2022 reaches its conclusion today with the final between Sri Lanka and Pakistan. We saw them go at it just a couple of days ago in what was effectively a dress rehearsal for today, and Sri Lanka won it quite comprehensively. But that could change as easily as a flip of a coin. We’ve seen chasing teams win almost everything here, and as much as you don’t want it to be the case, the toss is going to be a big factor.
Pakistan also have Shadab Khan and Naseem Shah coming back after being given a break last time. That immediately adds so much to their bite to their attack.
It’s not a tournament they generally do well at, having won it only twice – the last one being over a decade ago. Sri Lanka, in comparison, have a much better record. Who’s it going to be today?
