Ramadan Moon 2023 Sighting – Live Updates

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has convened in Peshawar to sight the crescent of the holy month of Ramadan. Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad is chairing the meeting, which is being held at the Auqaf Hall in Peshawar. The zonal moon-sighting committee is also meeting at the same venue. The Ramadan moon sighting in Karachi can last up to 7:28 pm, while in Quetta, it can be sighted till 7:15 pm, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The Ruet-e-Hilal committee will decide on the Ramadan moon sighting based on eyewitness accounts. The Ministry of Religious Affairs official stated that the meeting is being held in Peshawar to create consensus on the sighting of the crescent of Ramadan on the same day. The committee will receive calls for evidence and invite people from the private Ruet committees to record their statements. The committee will cross-question people recording their evidence to ensure the same.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs official further stated that the aim is to create consensus on this issue so that the holy month of Ramazan falls on the same day across the country. However, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has reported that the chances of moon sighting in Peshawar are minimal due to cloudy weather in the city.

It is noteworthy that Saudi Arabia and most other Gulf states will begin the fasting month of Ramadan on Thursday, March 23. The sighting of the crescent moon is a significant event in the Islamic calendar, as it marks the start of the holy month of Ramadan, during which Muslims fast from dawn to dusk.
